VICTIM VOICES ANGER AFTER BURGLARY

Dear Coordinator,
A MAN from Broxbourne who was a victim of a burglary has written a poem about the effect the incident has had on him and his wife.

The poem, entitled ‘Turned Over', was written by a 76 year old Derek Turl.

The incident took place at his property on the morning of Friday, May 28. The offenders forced open the front door, took some cash from the living room and carried out a search of the bedroom. The offenders made off with approximately £70 in cash. Extra security measures have been put in place in the property since the burglary.

TURNED OVER
To the person who burgled our flat,
I hope you're satisfied.
When I got home and saw the mess,
I really could have cried.
You raked through the drawers and cupboards,
and found a bit of money.
I bet you thought that clever,
but I don't find it funny.
It may not seem a lot to you,
but I would like to mention,
It was towards my holiday and much of my week's pension.
Of course it does not bother you,
it paid for some more drugs.
And who cares for us OAPs?
Us old pathetic mugs.
I bet you got a real good buzz,
creating all this fuss.
But please, be careful when you're stoned,
Don't fall under a bus.

Jordan Carter is investigating said: "This poem illustrates the devastating impact a burglary can have on victims. It isn't just the items taken and the inconvenience of replacing them and clearing up afterwards - it is the fact that someone has intruded into your private space.
"I hope this poem resonates in the consciousness of the offender and anyone who knows them, and makes them understand the distress they have caused. Tackling burglary is a priority for the Constabulary. We work with our partners and the community to help them secure their properties, as well as apprehending those responsible."

Anyone with information about this incident or those who may be responsible is asked to contact police via the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.
