Credit card scam
Dear Coordinator,
I have been made aware of a credit card scam going on elsewhere in the country. This information was passed to us by another constabulary.
What's happening is someone will call stating they are from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. They will try to make out that someone has used your card to purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for £497.99 from a Marketing company based in London. They will make out that they are creating a fraud investigation against the company and will credit your account with the amount missing.
However what they are infact doing is charging your account that amount, because they will ask for a 3 digit number that is on the back of your card. At no point will they ask for your account number, it is this 3 digit code that they require.
If anyone recieves a similar call, please report it through the various avenues. Hopefully nobody will recieve a call, but just incase, please be aware of scams like this and be very careful who you give personal information to.
