breakthrough charity bike ride

CONGRATULATIONS WERA SECRETARY

Your secretary, Annette Dodd, and her husband have recently completed the 55 mile Charity Cycle ride from London to Cambridge, in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Here's their story........

Despite being the hottest day of the year, it all went according to plan and we benefitted from making an early start. We caught the 7.01 from Cheshunt to Ponders End and so were at Picketts Lock by 7.30. After a quick photo call we were allowed to start 15 minutes before our planned time of 8am. It meant we could get a good 20 or so miles before the real heat started to kick in.

We had our back up team ready to meet us along the way, topping up our water bottles with ice cold squash.
There were a couple of really steep hills at around 40 miles which caused my chain to fall off! But, other than that we chugged along at a steady pace.
Thankfully the last 12 or so miles were on flat land but we found the 'countdown' signs by the road telling us that there were 10, 9, 8 miles etc very off putting. It seemed to make the last 10 miles seem longer than the rest of the ride!
At last we were in the centre of Cambridge and as we turned into Midsummer Common there were crowds clapping and cheering. It was such a wonderful feeling.
Our back up team were there to greet us and we must have gone through gallons of squash!

So far, we have raised over £1,300 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer but the web page to sponsor us is still open.
